Youngest Baldwin Brother May Avoid Jail Time for Unpaid Taxes

Posted on Apr 01, 2013

Last month, actor Stephen Baldwin’s attorney held a news conference about Mr. Baldwin’s alleged tax problems. During that conference, Mr. Baldwin’s attorney told the media that Mr. Baldwin failed to file New York State income tax returns for 2008, 2009, and 2010. He reportedly owes approximately $350,000 in back taxes and penalties and will plead guilty to the charges against him.

According to the reported tentative deal reached between Mr. Baldwin and the government, Mr. Baldwin has one year to pay back the taxes to have the case discharged on the condition that he stays out of trouble. If the money is not received in full within one year then Mr. Baldwin will reportedly be sentenced to probation and given five years to repay his outstanding taxes and penalties.

Mr. Baldwin’s attorney alleges that he got into this tax trouble because he relied on hired professionals, such as an accountant and an attorney. He reportedly never intended to defraud the government and is looking forward to putting this matter behind him.

Mr. Baldwin has appeared in several feature films and is known for being the youngest of the four Baldwin brothers. He is 46 years old and a resident of New York State.

This type of tax problem is not limited to celebrities.
