Lauryn Hill allegedly claims that she paid off her tax debt to the IRS before her sentencing date. Yet, a New Jersey judge has issued a sentence that includes prison time in her tax evasion case.
Ms. Hill reportedly owed the IRS approximately $1 million. Last year, she pled guilty to three counts of failing to file tax returns for tax years 2005, 2006, and 2007. According to CNN, the singer told the judge that she planned to pay her taxes. However, the judge reminded Ms. Hill that citizens don’t get to choose when to pay taxes. Rather, taxes must be paid according to the timetable established by the IRS.
