Internal Revenue Code paragraph 7216 warns that tax return preparers may be charged with criminal intent for disclosing or recklessly disclosing tax retrurn info or for using such info for other purposes than originally intended. Violators are subject to $1,000 fine or a year prison or both. Additional penalties may apply.
In addition, if tax preparers use any such proprietary tax info for the intent of health care enrollment services must obtain taxpayer consent before doing so.
IRS above language also applies to volunteer tax preparers.
