What To Expect If You Can’t Pay Your Oklahoma Income Tax On Time

Posted by Travis Watkins | Apr 09, 2017 | 0 Comments

You know how much you owe in Oklahoma income tax. No mistake has been made, and you have not been caught unaware. Instead, you simply don't have the money to pay your state income tax bill.

Know What Comes Next

You should still submit your state tax returns, even if you do not currently have the money to pay your Oklahoma income tax. If you have money to pay part of your tax liability, then you should include it with your return. Then you should expect:

  • To receive a bill for any unpaid Oklahoma income tax, interest on the unpaid taxes, and penalties for failure to pay on time. The bill will contain a minimum amount due.
  • To pay the minimum amount due, and then expect five additional bills to come to you (45 days apart) for the remaining tax liability.
  • If you cannot pay the minimum amount due, then you should contact the Oklahoma Tax Commission to work out an alternative payment plan before the OTC contacts you.

The penalty for not paying your taxes on time is 5% of your tax bill, and currently, interest will accrue on tax liability not paid by the original due date at the rate of 1.25% per month.
